Autocratic Policies in the Northwestern Province in the Epoch of Great Reform Komzolova A. A. The monograph focuses on the Russian Empire's internal autocratic policies with regard to Belarusian and Lithuanian lands incorporated after the partition of the Commonwealth of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Based on a great number of archival documents, the author looks at the Russian government's policies with regard to the Northwestern province during the reign of Alexander II, and examines activities of Vilna (Vilnius) Governors Nazimov, Muravyov, Kaufman, Baranov and others. Komzolova analyzes the effects of the 1863 anti-Russian uprising on the course of general Russian reform in the province and traces the consequences of measures initiated by Muravyov.
