Thinking about the lovers of the traditional embroidery we have prepared another publication from the series “Traditional embroidery and lace patterns of folk towels”. This time it contains ready-to-use flat sutch patterns taken from the folk decorative towels from the collection of the Museum in Bielsk Podlaski Branch of Podlaskie Museum in Białystok. This type of embellishment, made especially by an experienced creator, can fascinate with its beauty. Its uniqueness is revealed in the extensive and colourful ornamentation, often inspired by nature and the surrounding meadows, fields and backyard gardens. So in the flat stitch we can find poppies, cornflowers, chrysanthemums, grapevines, tulips, lilies, forget-me-nots, irises and roses. Published patterns were extremely useful in transferring them onto canvas. Thus, striking resemblance of embroidery on some towels is due to the use of ready-made templates and to their exchange between women. More talented ladies designed patterns on their own, other women just copied them from their neighbours and friends. As for ехатріе, we know that Zinaida Sakowska from Czyże (Hajnówka commune), who is, unfortunately, deceased now, drew patterns and allowed other women to use them. Carbon paper was used for copying, with the help of which a pattern was transferred from parchment onto canvas.
