Belarus’ Settlements in the Late 18th and Early 19th Centuries Sorokina Ina This volume is about Belarusian settlements’ transportation, trade, industries and daily life in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. It is not about big cities or small villages. It is about settlements, their multiculturalism and multilinguism. The author examines religious beliefs, traditions of various cultures, education and cultural activities involving residents. The monograph contains information on the number of settlements, their types and diversity. Settlements are bigger than villages and smaller than cities. Their residents were characterized by tolerance toward ethnic minorities living in the same socio-cultural and economic environment. Settlement development history can be used for planning future settlements based on the best features. The book is mainly intended for researchers and also for a broad circle of interested readers.
