Someone to Testify About Belarus Maria Hanko A member of the Belarusian Youth Union, a founder of the Association of Belarusians in Canada, Mikola Hanko (1924-1999) lived a complicated and eventful life. The book of recollections Someone to Testify About Belarus: Life and Activities of Mikola Hanko was written by his wife. Apart from landmarks in the life of this prominent fellow countryman who was well-known abroad and almost unknown in Belarus, the book includes Mikola Hanko's diary covering the period from 1943 to 1948. The reader will also find his correspondence with statespersons in Canada and the United States, and selected articles written by Mikola. With great love and dignity his wife writes about the first few years of their life in exile, his early public activities in Canada, the formation of the Slucak culture and recreation center and also about how deeply the Chernobyl disaster affected Belarusians abroad. The book includes a list of Belarusian public figures and organizations in Canada that gives a vivid glimpse of life and activities of Belarusians in emigration.
