The book includes material and research papers presented at the Third Skaryna Readings that marked the 480th anniversary of Belarusian book printing. The event took place in Polatsk from September 9 to 12, 1997. Some works throw light on hitherto unknown aspects of the book printer's life, adding new important details to Skaryna's biography. The readings brought together researchers from Belarus, Poland, Russia and Ukraine. Polatsk-based scientists offer research into enlightenment and book printing traditions of Polatsk, and other Belarusian territories. The collection includes works on life of Ragneda, Euphrosyne of Polatsk and Simeon of Polatsk. Researchers analyze enlighteners' influence on culture of Polatsk Duchy and the Grand Duchy of Litva. The collection includes material on book publishing and Skaryna studies in contemporary Belarus.
