The Road by Ivonka Survilla is a pilgrimage from the village of Zasulle, Stoubtsy district, Minsk region, to Toronto in Canada, an account of how a small girl became an outstanding Belarusian artist, head of the Belarusian National Republic's Rada. Like every road, Ivonka Survilla's life crossed the paths of many prominent Belarusians who fled the country after its occupation. The life story mentions Belarusian community, cultural and religious activists in exile such as Mikola Abramchyk, Vintsent Zhuk-Hryshkevich, Rev. Leu Haroshka, Bishop Mikalay and Yanka Survilla, her life companion. Mrs. Survilla recalls her childhood, emigration, studies and romance that led her to Spain. Public activities of the author and her consistent work for the Belarusian cause feature prominently in the book. Through the Belarusian cause, Ivonka Survilla visited her birthplace after 48 years in emigration. It was after Belarus gained its independence. The Road by Ivonka Survilla is the life story of a true Belarusian who has maintained links with her Motherland after the emigration.
