“Telefone phairy tails” is a series of tongue-in-cheek Facebook posts in the form of fictitious dialogues made its debut in Belarus in July 2015. It was called “DavajPaka,” (roughly translated as “Ok, See Ya”) and appeared just as a new presidential election campaign was being launched in the country - one more hopeless than all that had preceded it. It was moment in Belarus’ political history particularly ripe for satire. In the four years since its debut, DavajPaka’s author has been alternately accused of poking fun at the country’s president, and/or providing him with free publicity. Whatever the case, the popularity of the series surprised even the author himself, with individual installments getting as many as 40,000 views on Facebook. Some of the best-loved posts garnered over 3,000 likes and hundreds of reposts. DavajPaka’s actual fan base is probably impossible to measure.
