Minsk: is the Capital of the Republic of Belarus, a state comprising most of the lands inhabited by the Belarusan people, with the exception of Smolensk. The country lies stategically placed at the watershed of the Baltic and Black Sea river systems, between Poland and Lithuania to the west, Russia to the north and east and Ukraine to the south. With a total area of 230.000 km2, and a population approximating 11.000.000. Belarus is about the same size as Great Britain (240.000 km2), with a population well in excess of Bulgaria, Portugal, Belgium or Sweden. The climate is continental temperate. (fragment)
