Alyaksandar Ulasau's name was banished from the press for many years. Few newspapers mentioned the journalists in articles full of factual errors. Ulasau, who edited the Belarusian-language newspaper Nasha Niva for many years, maintained contact with the Belarusian community in Vilnius. Connections with Belarusians helped him to win a seat in the Polish Sejm in 1922. It should be noted that this Belarusian identity revival advocate used his status to help the Belarusian people and promote education in his country. Ulasau expected changes for the better when the Bolsheviks took control of Belarus. He hoped he will be able to write under any regime about the Belarusians' struggle for independence. The illusion cost him five years in prison. The 68-year old writer and educator was sentenced in a secret trial and served his term in Russia's Novosibirsk province. He died of a heart attack, according to official records. The book by Lyavon Lutskevich and Halina Voytsik is a dedication to the man who worked toward the re-establishment of national identity
