The book by Vilnius-based writers Lyavon Lutskevich and Halina Voytsik is a biography of Stanislau Stankevich (1907-1980), an outstanding Belarusian literature critic, a prominent public figure, editor of the Rukh magazine and the newspapers Batskaushchyna and Belarus. Stankevich was born in the village of Arlyanyaty, Ashmyany district, and died in New York. He lived in Vilnius, Navahrudak, Barysau, Germany and the United States. In Vilnius, he studied at the Belarusian Gymnasium and Vilnius University. That relatively short period shaped him as a Belarusian language revivalist, journalist and book critic. He worked for Radio Liberty Belarusian Service on moving to the United States and almost until his death. His programs angered Soviet ideologues. Stankevich's main books are Belarusian Literature under the Soviets in the Early 1960s (1967) and Yanka Kupala. For 100th Birthday (1981).

Alyaksandar Ulasau's name was banished from the press for many years. Few newspapers mentioned the journalists in articles full of factual errors.
