Games Over the Well by Zharnasek Iryna The book by Iryna Zharnasek is a retrospective of human memory, feelings and sentiments that are evoked by memories. The book features three novellas, each about a separate human fate, a separate story, but a very complicated one reminiscent of the fates of thousands of others. Life in recollections, life on the crossroads when one must make a choice and cannot make it. The characters are people of different age who find themselves in different situations. A young mother at the crossroads, does not know which way to go – alone with her child or against one’s conscience, an old man who cares about the loved ones who do not care about him, and an emigrant who returns to his home village to revisit his difficult, complicated and unfair childhood and youth. All of them have high and pure intentions and want to see the same intentions around them. The book is good for reading during long cold winter nights. It makes readers analyze their own life and ask themselves: “Should it really be this way?” (N.H.)
