The second chronicle by Anatol Kazlovich documents paradoxes that occurred and continue to occur in Belarus. The journalist took down what Belarusian experienced in their everyday life. The four books The Belarusians between Heaven and Earth contain factual material about the most complicated period in Belarus in the late 20th and the early 21st century, when the country gained independence. The characters include Kazlovich’s retired neighbor, villagers, business owners – those who live next to us and shape the present by living their independent and unique lives. The author does not moralize or engage in propaganda, but he gives accurate answers to the question as to why Belarus backslid to the Soviet past in the 21st century. (Z.K.)
