The Belarusians between Heaven and Earth This is the first book of a chronological series by Anatol Kazlovich. This is not a diary, memoir or recollection, but rather a work by a journalist who took down what impressed him as a person and a professional. The four books The Belarusians between Heaven and Earth contain factual material about the most complicated period in Belarus in the late 20th and the early 21st century, when the country gained independence. The first book of The Belarusians between Heaven and Earth series covers a 17-year period between 1986 and 2002. It features short notes made on the heels of developments and published in the Moscow-based Literaturnaya Gazeta and the Riga-based Nezavisimaya Baltiyskaya Gazeta. Reports are accompanied by excerpts from the author’s diary, which apart from facts reflects the author’s personal views on what he observed in Belarus. (Z.K.)
