The book by prominent Litviny movement apologist Ales Bely features traditional Belarusian recipes passed from generation to generation. Every dish deserves a separate publication. Our Food is the first attempt to bring traditional recipes back to life and can pioneer the revival of Belarusian traditional cuisine. Does not only the author lay down the recipes, but he also tracks historical origins of every meal. Belarusian cuisine is much richer than it seems but many recipes have been forgotten. The author focuses on meals that Belarusians used to cook on a daily basis. Certain changes diet were linked to class changes in society in the 20th century. Sovietization set new trends that made people forget recipes that used to be traditional in the 19th century. This book is not only about food, it encourages readers to revive traditions. (Z.K.)
