Jesús R. Mercader Uguina, professor of labor law and social security at the Universidad Carlos III, Madrid, objectively and thoroughly analyzes the international labor agreements subscribed by Cuba with the International Labor Organization, as well as the current labor situation in the isle. The author places particular emphasis on the observations of the Committee of Experts on the Application of Conventions and Recommendations and of the Committee on Freedom of Association of the International Labor Organization with regards to the violations of important conventions, such as: No. 87 about freedom of association and the right to organize; No. 98 about the right to organize and collective bargaining; No. 111 about discrimination (employment and occupation); No. 122 about employment policy; and No. 95 about protection of wages.
