The publication features articles, reports and statements made at the Second International Congress of Belarusists, which was held in Minsk in May 1995 and entitled "Belarus Between East and West." The event focused on cooperation and a dialogue among ethnic groups, religions and cultures. Among those who greeted the congress participants were Belarus' foreign minister, the vice-president of the Belarusian Academy of Sciences, and scientist Barys Kit. The speakers included Nil Hilevich, Alyaksey Rahulya, Uladzimir Konan, Leanid Lych, Vital Kipel and other prominent researchers, writers and public figures living in Belarus and abroad. Participants discussed relations among ethnic groups, religious communities, cooperation in culture, science, arts and folk culture, and the role of the Belarusian diaspora in promoting the Belarusian language and culture throughout the world.
