Liberation from Occupation Attitudes of Polish-Lithuanian-Belarusian Border Area Residents to Government Changes in the 20th Century This is yet another, fifth volume of material presented at international conferences on the theme, "The Shared Legacy of Northeastern Territories of Former Rzeczpospolita." This time around, historians from Belarus, Lithuania and Poland look at attitudes of border area residents of various ethnic backgrounds to changes of governments and borders. The conference exposed differences in views on controversial subjects. Lithuanian and Polish historians build their concepts on ideas and topics they have considered correct until recently, although there are signs that researchers are leaning toward a broader perspective. Polish historians are trying to understand perception problems among ethnic Belarusians and Lithuanians in Second Rzeczpospolita. Some of them no longer regard the Belarusians as just another ethnic minority group in Poland, but as a nation seeking independence from Second Rzeczpospolita. The publication includes a chapter on disputes over Vilnius. Unfortunately, the Belarusians are still shut out of the Lithuanian-Polish debate on the issue.
