A Belarusian Girl – An Erotic Novella is a controversial and mysterious novella that made some waves in the early 2000th. Its Belarusian translation published in the Bialystok-based Czasopis drew fire and raised controversy. This is an account of a girl who settles down in Minsk and describes her private life without covering any detail with a shameful fig leave, and also discusses Minsk’s café society in a frank and straightforward way. It is unclear whether Marta Pinska is the author’s real name. The real name of its Belarusian translator, who calls himself Uncle Vasil, is also unknown. Some critics described the novella as “repugnant pornography,” saying it should have never been published.
