Historical Journeys In May 2003, the World Association of the Belarusians "Batskaushchyna" announced a contest of children's essays on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of reformation in Belarus. Selected essays were included in Historical Journeys. The subjects chosen include Euphrosyne of Polack, Francisak Skaryna, Mikola Husouski, Stefan Batory, Tadevush Kastsyushka, mounds, castles, churches, stones, rivers, lakes, Pahonya, coats of arms of towns and nobles, the beauty of language and nature. The contest involved Belarusian schoolchildren and kids from former Soviet republics and other countries. The competition was part of an effort by the World Association of Belarusians "Batskaushchyna" to raise awareness of the country's history. Regretfully, the publication of children's essays is a rare occurrence in Belarusian literature, therefore, the collection is an important and valuable present to those interested in the young generation in Belarus.
