Europe from 1815 to Our Days by Jean Baptiste Duroselle The introduction says that a historian does not simply collect facts but makes the reality understandable. This is how French historian Jean Baptist Duroselle sees his role. Europe presented in retrospective with all events linked and interdependent. Every event has an effect on a certain epoch and turns into a phenomenon as time goes by. A historian describing 1939 would say that developments in Nazi Germany overshadowed national liberation movements in colonies, but 20 years later those movements brought about the collapse of the colonial system. The author analyses European history, proving that the law of chemistry "you can never get something out of nothing" is applicable to history. He focuses on major historical developments trying to analyze their causes and effects. The book shows transformations in Europe from the time of empires to modern democracies.
