Belarus' Geopolitical Role in Europe and the World Геапалітычнае месца Беларусі ў Эўропе і сьвеце The collection features material presented at the conference "Belarus' Geopolitical Role in Europe and the World." The presentations made by public, political and cultural figures enable readers to familiarize themselves with various views on the political, economic, social and cultural situation in the country ruled by Alyaksandr Lukashenka. Although political scientists are split over Russia's influence on the Belarusian government, no one doubts that the Belarusian leader completely controls the country. Thriving in Belarus are cultural apartheid, language discrimination and intellectual provincialism – the three pillars of the Lukashenka regime. Certainly, political technologies can help overthrow any regime, but persistent cultural work alone can open up democratic prospects for Belarus. One of the main conclusions by conference participants is that without radical cultural changes in Belarusian society, the authoritarian regime will replicate. It is intellectuals' responsibility to humanize society and open it to the outside world.
