Body and Text Yuras Barysevich The collection of essays is a cross-section of Belarusian culture of the 1990s. The writer's observations leave a sense of schizophrenia, typically evidenced by overconcentration on small things that most people consider unimportant. The culture has brought together mostly intellectuals whose domination creates an illusion or a hallucination that the public takes interest in elite literature. In this particular case, it is a squared hallucination – most Belarusians take no interest in Belarusian literature, especially in highly intellectual works. Belarusian writers have a small audience, probably, because their works are too ambitious and sophisticated. Barysevich suggests that to stop the dehumanization of literature it is necessary to give priority to disproving Roland Barthes' "death of the author" theory, which is abused by those who steal and take advantage of others' destinies, names and style techniques. There is no better way to make humans the main subject and object of literature than to revive half-forgotten styles and tastes commensurate with our body's aesthetic needs.
