A similar secrecy guidebook helped Polish opposition members to fight dictatorship during the martial law in the 1980s. Secrecy Tips includes quotes from that guidebook, but this is an absolutely different publication. Its main focus is on information and communication security. It includes tips on simple and effective encryption software, methods of printing, storing and distributing leaflets, secure communication via e-mail and telephone. The guidebook provides advice on how to conceal information in the case of seizure of computers or memory storage devices. There are tips on how to maintain security at the offices of underground organizations, what to do if one is searched, interrogated or arrested, and how to prevent secret agents from planting illegal weapons, counterfeit banknotes and narcotic drugs. The main advice is that opposition activists should use legal means of defense as much as possible.
