General Stanislau Bulak-Bulakhovich was one of the historical figures who elicited admiration as a military commander known for his great victories, but who was also hated for some personal traits and mainly because of myths created during the Soviet era. The book by Marek Cybanowski is written in a popular genre. At times it seems to be an essay about General Stanislau Bulak-Bulakhovich. On the other hand, it was the first attempt to bring this prominent figure back from oblivion. The author does not insist that his book is a work of science, but he reopens some forgotten pages of history. The book refers to Stanislau Bulak-Bulakhovich as a Polish officer, but the author does not unequivocally state his ethnicity. He also explores relations between ethnic groups that constituted Rezeczpospolita. (Z.K.)
