Spring Jazz by Lis Daryya I met Daryya Lis for the first time at Bezmezhzha, a literary workshop held in Podlasie, Poland, in 2009. I heard her pure, warm, childish and funny voice on the radio earlier. I also came across her poems, which were also pure and light, very optimistic and inspirational, could not even explain why. Her verses and short essays reminded me of Nina Matsyash. I did not know why I associated her with Matsyash, maybe because of her sensitivity or the warmth and kindness of her works? I understood why I had this impression when I met Daryya. She took the same attitude, had the same vehicle, a similar fate and the same confident look in her eyed. A disease confined her to a wheelchair but she was eager to live, create and spread kindness. Spring Jazz features poems and short stories by Daryya Lis. While reading it, one learns a lot about the author’s emotions, dreams, life plans and her concerns about the fate of the nation. Like Nina, she does not denounce anyone, but tries to understand.
