Conflicts in the Post-Soviet Space as Seen by Civic Society After the collapse of the Soviet Union all problems that arose as a result of the Soviet governments’ ethnic policies became very pressing. Every conflict attracts the attention of people and civic society organizations that deal with conflict resolution, human rights and humanitarian programs. These people hold negotiations, provide assistance for those affected and displaced and run rehabilitation programs. Since the challenge is enormous, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) set up a working group on conflict resolution, which monitored active and latent conflicts in the CIS. The publication sums up experience gained during missions and assesses NGOs’ capacity to organize and conduct peacemaking missions. The book features mission reports and other limited edition material. It gives readers an opportunity to analyze various missions, share experience and work out further action on conflict resolution.
