Existing publications in English, dealing with Byelorussia and its historical past, have failed to systematically the entire course of that history. Some present a fragmentary and incomplete framework, while others merely serve to furnish material of an encyclopedic nature for brief and general reference. The historical information is also, quite often, combined with other unrelated data, and is, distorted at times by the tendentious views of the editor. To satisfy, at least partially, the existing need for a total account of Byelorussian history in English, this version has been published.
