The publication is about life, destinies and activity of real Belarusians, people who are almost unknown in present-day Belarus. Wars and Stalin's genocide purged human memories, but not completely, not forever. It is impossible to suppress human interest in that horrible period, just as it is impossible to erase human memories and memories of survivors. It should be noted that many people paid a high price for their views and beliefs but did not compromise against their conscience. The book is about Anelya Katkovich and Veranika Katkovich-Klentak, sisters caught between the devil and the deep blue sea as both Poland and the Soviet government were hostile toward Belarusian nationalists. The girls always lived in fear. They were arrested in the late 1940 on treason charges and sentenced to a labor camp in the Irkutsk province, Siberia. Earlier, the sisters' had published their notes, letters and recollections about life and the imprisonment in Polish. Now the material is also available in Belarusian.
