Ihar Kuznyatsou is one of Belarus' most prominent researchers into Stalin's terror. At the same time, the authorities rebuild Stalin's line of defenses, celebrate Bolshevik revolution anniversaries and are reluctant to recognize the genocide against the Belarusian people. The numbers of those executed and tortured to death are shocking. Repression initially targeted "class enemies" – well-off people, continued with purges among the political nomenklatura, and ended in mass executions of representatives of ethnic groups. All classes and all groups were affected. In Belarus, 85 percent of ethnic Poles were murdered during 10 years of Stalin's terror. That is why the book is entitled From History of Political Repression of Poles in the 1930s and 1940s. The future is impossible without the past. It is very important to inform the young generation about its grimiest chapters. Mistakes should not be allowed to repeat, atrocities should not be forgotten
