Old Belarusian Chronicles features plays by godfather of Belarusian historical fiction Uladzimir Karatkevich. Uladzimir Karatkevich takes us on a trip to Belarus’ past, writing about Kastus Kalinouski and Vitsyebsk residents’ uprising against religious discrimination. Even the closest in time play The Mill at Blue Sloughs has an eternity feel and is in harmony with his general perception of Belarus’ heroic fate. Uladzimir Karatkevich continues the best Belarusian drama traditions. He ushered in a galaxy of Belarusian playwrights who explored Belarusian history themes. Uladzimir Karatkevich’s plays add to the image of the writer who worked hard to create a sense of national identity and arouse a feeling of pride for the nation’s past.
